Support deal for Bulgarian Air Forces C-27Js

The Bulgarian air force's fleet of C-27J medium-lift aircraft will receive logistic services for the next 10 years from Alenia Aeronautica of Italy.

Alenia, a Finmeccanica company, produces the tactical aircraft in partnership with L-3 Communications.

"We deem it fundamental to offer our customers ever more integrated services through an ad hoc and timely support to ensure a long product's life cycle and make the most of the customers' investment," said Giuseppe Giordo, Alenia Aeronautica's chief executive officer, who is also responsible for Finmeccanica's Aeronautics Sector.

"The approach adopted with Bulgaria, that has allowed us to effectively capitalize the available financial resources, certainly represents a pattern applicable to many of Alenia Aeronautica's customers in order to guarantee the operational long-term efficiency of their C-27Js."

Under the award, Alenia Aeronautica will supply spare parts, ground support gear, maintenance inspections and on-site technical assistance for the twin-engine turboprop plane.

Alenia said the first five-year contract under the arrangement with Bulgaria is worth about $32.6 million.
