Turkey halts T-37 flights after second fatal accident

The Turkish air force has halted flights with its Cessna T-37 jet trainers to perform technical checks on the type, Flightglobal.com has reported.

The decision follows two fatal accidents in the last six months.

On January 16, a Pakistani instructor and a trainee pilot flying on an exchange tou r were killed when their aircraft crashed, echoing a similar incident in July 2011 when two crew members died when their aircraft hit the sea near Izmir, Turkey.

Although suspended from flight operations, Flightglobal reports that the air force said its T-37s will be returned to use after technical checks have been completed.
