In the current Dutch defense model, all rotary-wing assets are centralized under the Defense Helicopter Command (DHC), which is administratively part of the Air Force but provides operationally dedicated support to the Navy and the Marine Corps.

Strategic Note (2026): By 2026, the Royal Netherlands Navy is undergoing a significant modernization phase under the 2024 White Paper, focusing on increased readiness and the integration of uninhabited systems. A key priority is the replacement of the aging AS532 Cougar with the H225M, ensuring the Netherlands Marine Corps (2,650 personnel) maintains modern tactical air-manoeuvre capabilities. The Navy continues its deep cooperation with Belgium for the joint acquisition of new frigates and mine-countermeasures vessels, while also coordinating maritime domain awareness with NATO allies via pooled assets such as the NATO AEW&C Force. Domestic industry remains vital, with Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding supporting the fleet and DutchAero producing advanced aerospace components.
