Tanzania Air Force Command

Tanzania maintains its aerial capabilities through a developing relationship with China, which has provided the bulk of its jet and training inventory. The command is increasingly focused on improving tactical mobility and airlift, recently inducting modern Italian and European platforms.

Strategic Note: By 2026, the Tanzania Air Force Command has significantly improved its readiness through the recapitalization of its transport fleet, specifically the induction of the C-27J Spartan to replace or augment aging DHC-5D Buffalo assets. While the Kingdom’s fighter inventory remains centered on older Chinese-origin F-7 platforms, the developing partnership with China continues to facilitate maintenance and pilot training. The service also benefits from combat lessons learned during its contribution to the UN Force Intervention Brigade in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, emphasizing the need for robust rotary-wing support and persistent situational awareness. Global situational awareness and airlift remain the primary pillars of the Command's contribution to national defense and regional peacekeeping missions.
