INDONESIAN ARMY AVIATION • Pusat Penerbangan TNI Angkatan Darat (TNI-AD)

Army ε300,400 personnel. Aviation Command established in 1974 (formerly established as DINAS PENERBAD in 1959). Organization: Operates 1 composite aviation squadron and 2 specialized helicopter squadrons providing organic support for tactical maneuver and ground assault.

  • SAM (Point-defence): 2 Kobra batteries (equipped with 125 GROM-2 missiles); Starstreak; TD-2000B (Giant Bow II); 51 Rapier launchers; 42 RBS-70 systems; QW-3.
  • Guns (Towed): 411 total; 121 Rh 202 (20mm); Giant Bow (23mm); 90 L/70 (40mm); 200 S-60 (57mm).

ARMAMENT

  • Air-to-Surface Missiles (ASM): AGM-114 Hellfire (Primary armament for AH-64E).

Note: By 2026, the Indonesian Army Aviation has reached a significant milestone in tactical mobility with the induction of 24 S-70i Black Hawks and the integration of the indigenous N219 transport fleet. The service remains the primary provider of organic air maneuver and close air support for the Army's internal security and counter-insurgency operations, particularly in regions like West Papua. While the Air Force transitioned its air defense role to its own command in 2022, the Army maintains a robust inventory of organic point-defense SAMs and anti-aircraft guns for localized field protection.
